Hyundai will showcase their online tracking service during CES and must be hoping parents may soon be making it the popular way to know where their children are. The program will be available in a number of the new Hyundais and location of the vehicle can be seen through Facebook, Cnet reported.
The new telematics service is called Blue Link. "Although Hyundai's announcement does not provide complete operational details, Blue Link appears to have an associated smartphone app, an in-car hardware component, a call center, and integration with the car's navigation system."
But the service I think will get buyers attention will be the ability to track the car's location using Facebook - handy if stolen, but much handier tracking where your kids are. Other parent friendly features include "parental control, such as the capability to set up a "geo-fence." If the vehicle leaves a proscribed area, the owner will receive a text message. The owner can also set speed alerts," Cnet reported.
This is a feature other car manufacturers will be rapidly deploying, no doubt if the popularity proves out.
