Getting Add To & Subscribe Buttons For Feeds

A look at how to get and add buttons to help people subscribe to your web feeds.

Add To or Subscribe buttons or “chicklets” are a way to let users of a particular feedreading service click and add your feed directly to their preferred service. In other words, many people make use of My Yahoo to read feed content and blogs. Offering an Add To My Yahoo button makes it easy for these people to see how to get your feed into their My Yahoo reader. Below, a rundown on where to get Add Me / Subscribe buttons for popular services:

  • Bloglines: Use the form here to enter your feed URL and generate a button in one of several formats.
  • Feedster: Use the form here to enter your feed URL and generate a button in one of several formats.
  • Google: Use the form here to enter your feed URL and generate a button that will work with Google Reader or Google Personalized Home Page.
  • My MSN: Information on this page gives you the code to you, but you can’t cut and paste it. You have type everything in AND download and install the logo on your site, rather than calling it from them. FYI, when I checked back on this page, it appears to be down. It should come back up.
  • My Yahoo: Use the form here to enter your feed URL and generate a button in one of several formats and languages.
  • NewsGator: Copy the code down at the bottom of this page replacing with your information as explained. Choose whatever button you prefer.
  • Odeo: After you create a channel for your podcast, you should see a Badges link that appears when you are logged in and viewing the channel page. Select that page for a number of buttons to choose from.
  • Pluck: Copy the code down at the bottom of this page replacing with your information as explained. Choose whatever button you prefer.
  • Podnova: Use the form here to enter your feed URL and generate a button for your podcast.
  • Rojo: Use the form here to enter your feed URL and generate a button in one of several formats.

Aside from feedreading services, there are also bookmarking services that let people save and share pages with others. Having “Save To” links for these services may make it easier for others to share your content. Some links:
