The chart below shows the top 15 keywords which have risen the most on MetaCrawler from the previous month.
(Note: MetaCrawler does not yet report search phrases. For example, the list will not show how many times people searched for "Lost In Space," though individual words such as "lost" and "space" might appear apart from each other. The commentary below the chart makes some educated guesses at popular search terms that may have occurred.)

As usual, many of the top terms reflect actresses. Cameron Diaz, Liv Tyler, Alyssa Milano are all newcomers from the previous month.
Not an actress but instead a movie, Saving Private Ryan moved up the list in July.
Computers were on people's minds. Some were looking for Windows 98 information (win98), while others were fearful of the Year 2000 bug, or y2k, to those in the know.
Did I forget to say Happy 4th of July? A lot of people were apparently looking for information about the American Independence Day holiday.

Showing that plot does matter, Godzilla plummeted from its previous state of grace. Or perhaps it is just out with the old movies and in with the new, because the X-Files movie also took a dive in terms of interest.
Nor are movie actors spared fleeting fame. Leonardo DiCaprio saw a drop, as did Jennifer Love Hewitt.
On the sporting front, it was out with basketball, the NBA and probably Michael Jordan. Don't worry. I'm sure they'll be popular again next season.
Also in July, people stopped looking for information about the live Internet birth, fewer were interested in Monica Lewinsky, and the computer game Gran Turismo was no longer as hot.
