SEW Awards Deadline Extended - Now July 21

My phone has been ringing off the hook today with last-minute submitters to the Search Engine Watch Awards asking for an extension to today's deadline.

In an effort to get all these great submissions included in our awards, we've decided to extend our deadline through Tuesday, July 21. Besides that, it will allow me to get something done today without answering my phone or e-mail about this every few minutes. :)

To make your submission, or for more information, visit the SEW Awards page.

Anyone that rushed their submission to meet today's deadline and would like to add more to theirs can do so by contacting us and letting us know which submission you'd like to revise.

Thanks again for your interest in the SEW Awards. I hope this extension will help you all get your best submissions in for consideration.

SEW Experts: Top SEO Firms Paid for by the Following...

Our industry still has a lot of growing up to do. Participating in advertising programs masquerading as objective ratings services is not going to help us do that. In today's natural search column, "Top SEO Firms Paid for by the Following...," Mark Jackson issues a plea for the SEO industry to mature, become more responsible corporate citizens, and educate the masses, in a non-commercial way. Perhaps, then, we can see more companies putting faith (and budgets) behind SEO efforts, so that every SEO firm will benefit from the growth of the entire pie.

Yahoo Searchlight Awards Show Next Week

Yahoo's second annual Searchlight Awards show rewarding creativity and innovation in search will be held next week in New York. Attendees at the event, which takes place Thursday, Feb. 22 from 2-5 p.m. at the Time Life Building, will choose a winner for the Searchlight Award from a group of finalists who will present their campaigns to a panel of industry leaders and the audience.

According to Yahoo, the award "recognizes and rewards advertising agencies that develop search marketing applications outside of the tried and true direct response mindset." Last year's winner, RPA Interactive's "Honda Element: A Different Animal" campaign, defeated three other finalists.

The event will also include a keynote address and panel on industry issues. All search marketers, in-house or agency-side, are invited to attend. Registration is required.

RPA Awarded By Both Google & Yahoo For Paid Search Innovation

AdWeek reports that ad agency, RPA, has been awarded awards from both Google and Yahoo for paid search innovation early this month.

"RPA's ability to leverage the entire Google network helped them creatively manage the innovated Honda and Pioneer Electronics campaigns by finding customers not only on our core search properties, but across thousands of Google AdSense partners," said Chris LaSala, Google's head of agencies, New York, in a statement. "This approach reinforces their leadership in the industry."

Chris Sherman wrote about the Yahoo "Search Light" Award around a month ago.

Vote For The Most Annoying Forum Personality

ThreadWatch is throwing a different kind of SEO awards contest. They are running a contest for you to pick the five top most annoying personalities at the search marketing forums. I have to admit, only a few of the people listed, I would consider annoying personalities, within the forums. You can vote yourself at this form.

Does this have anything to do with DaveN gaining fifty-percent ownership of ThreadWatch? That I do not know.

Postscript: The winner has been announced here.
