ZoomInfo Retools Its Business Info Search

Business information search engine ZoomInfo has retooled its offering to create a single user interface for its various products. The new search engine gives one view of data on companies, people and jobs, which are crawled by ZoomInfo and organized semantically based on the relationship the data has to a company or person.

ZoomInfo offers a free company information and people search, supported by Google AdSense ads. The free search now incorporates job search from Indeed.com as well. The company also plans to sell its own contextually and behaviorally targeted ads later this year. A subscription-based ZoomExec search service provides more detail on people searches for company executives. A PowerSearch subscription offers ZoomInfo's entire package of search tools, with detailed company and personal profiles. The PowerSearch technology was launched in January, during the AlwaysOn conference in New York.

ZoomInfo claims its semantic technology sets it apart from commodity business information providers like Hoovers or OneSource, and that its data quality exceeds user-generated networks like LinkedIn or Ryze.

Google Finance Adds Suggest Auto Complete & Conference Call Transcripts

We have been tipped off that Google Finance has added two new features today. The first is auto-complete, like Google Suggest. If you go to Google Finance and begin typing something, it will offer suggestions tailored to stock symbols (pretty useful). Also, if you view a particular stock quote, you may notice an additional link added under the "Facts" section where it has "Site Links." The additional link is named "Transcripts" and links to SeekingAlpha.com. If you view GOOG and click on the transcript link, it takes you to Recent Transcripts for GOOG at SeekingAlpha.com.

Yahoo Finance Upgrades Features & Charts

Part of the launch of the new Yahoo homepage, Yahoo has added some features to Yahoo Finance. Those features include new tools to manage charts, an improved "investors chat room" and financial video news. SearchViews explains that Yahoo "hopes to tone down the wild west atmosphere of boards by introducing a way to rate posts on a scale of 1 to 5 stars, with lower rated posts to be filtered out." Part of the upgrade includes access to adding Yahoo badges to your site, something we beta tested in mid-May.

The Lastest from Business.com

Search: Jake Winebaum, CEO, Business.com, Santa Monica, Calif., from BtoBOnline has a look at the latest happenings at this vertical engine along with a couple of comments from Winebaum.

"I don?t think specialized search in any way replaces general search," he told BtoB earlier this year. "In the same way cable networks complement the major networks, we are serving a specific audience alongside the large search engines." In fact, Business.com partners with Google to expand its directory where appropriate. "When someone is searching for something not displayed in our directory, we?ll display Google results," he said.

Accoona Now Offering Some D&B Data

The China Daily reports that web engine Accoona is now offering a small amount of company info from the Dun & Bradstreet database for about 14 million U.S. companies.

When Accoona launched several months ago they offered company info but did not say the source of the data.

To access the D&B data, run a search at Accoona and click the business search button. Here's a business search for Yahoo. Clicking either the info link or the D&B button next to each title will open a window with info including: + Contact Info + Address + Company Size + Ticker Symbol A link to purchase a D&B report is also visible.

Useful, sure but the data is sketchy which I think has more to do with Accoona than D&B. For example, I ran a business search trying to find a record for Accoona and ended up with a link to MidwestChristianMediaInc.

I do see some amount of improvement since the last time I used Accoona especially when trying to find the address/contact info of a corporate headquarters. However, this service still needs plenty more work.

Google Joins Yahoo & Ask With Direct Display Of Stock Market Data In Results

Google has joined Yahoo and Ask Jeeves and is now placing a current stock chart and other info directly into search results pages. Previously, you had to click a second time to get to this info.

For example: if you enter the ticker symbol GOOG, you'll see the current stock price plus today's chart.

Actually clicking on the GOOG link takes you to a set of financial info "tabs" with info from a variety of sources. Google has offered this information for several years. In fact, use the search syntax stocks:symbol (such as stocks:goog), and you skip web search results and instead go right to the financial info tabs.

Yahoo has already had direct display of stock charts in results, as you can see in this example.

Yahoo offers bit less financial info in the direct display, but they do include a couple of news headlines. If you begin your research at Yahoo Finance and enter a ticker symbol you'll find even more info. In fact, this is one of the resources that Google ironically draw upon for its Google's "financial info tabs".

Ask Jeeves offers Smart Search results box with a current stock chart, most of the same current financial data Google offers, and direct links for news and detailed company info via Marketwatch.com

This Google Blog posting has more including info about how to access stock quotes via SMS. 4INFO.net and Synfonic are two other services that offer stock quotes via SMS.

You can access Hoover's company profiles (more than 40,000), news headlines, etc. for free (just like you can do on their "regular" web site) and also login for more comprehensive data if you have a Hoover's subscription. The url for mobile access to Hoover's is: http://mobile.hoovers.com.
