The Maptech MapServer contains over 60,000 topographic maps, nautical charts, aeronautical charts, and aerial and satellite photographs covering the United States.
Most searchers are familiar with sites like Mapblast and Mapquest, that offer online maps and directions for cities throughout the world. But there are many other map sites on the web, offering more sophisticated or detailed cartographic views.
The Maptech MapServer contains over 60,000 topographic maps, nautical charts, aeronautical charts, and aerial and satellite photographs covering the United States. You can search for maps in several ways. The easiest is simply to enter a city or a state.
For many places, you'll be offered a list of results that show specific place names, buildings, landmarks or other features in or near the town you've entered.
You can also search by zip code, if you know it. And for the truly serious geomancer, there's also a form to enter latitude and longitude in degrees, minutes and seconds.
Once a map has been displayed, clicking on any area in the map will also show you the latitude and longitude -- very helpful if you're working with GIS applications. Tabs at the top of the map let you select topo maps, nautical or aeronautical charts, of high-altitude photos of the area, if they're available. For many maps, you can also change the scale, or zoom in and out from the map's center.
MapServer allows you to browse, view, print, and email maps for free.
